First Gear is the brand that I have chosen and have had good use of. Other brands may also offer equivalent or better quality and dependability. I have had no complaints and am in my third year of use.
Basic systems will include the item of clothing you choose and a controller. You actually could choose to avoid controller and plug the item directly into power but you will not be able to control the heat level and would likely overheat you. Regulating the temperature by the plug would only be an emergency option for me.
Choosing a controller is a choice between a single channel or dual channel and between wired and wireless. If accommodating for yourself and a passenger… consideration should be given to the purchase separate controllers.
My opinion is to plan for a dual controller system. Even if you are currently purchasing one heated clothing item, you will eventually want more. Having made the initial investment of a dual controller will prevent you from buying a single controller only to have to replace it when you purchase additional clothing items. It is possible to have and use multiple single units.
The choice between wired and wireless controllers was easy for me. With the wireless controller, on the Goldwing (and likely other mounts) the wireless allows you install the controller in many locations or you can still ware it your pocket like so many do with the wired model.
With the wired controller you are able to mount the controller in many of the same places as with the wireless but not having wires to manage and conceal… the wireless makes for a much cleaner install.
We have multiple clothing items. An example of how I use the dual controller is as follows. Red knob is designated for my lower body i.e. heated sox and pants while the upper body (jacket and gloves are on the amber controller.
The sox plug directly into the pants and the pants plug into the wireless power regulator. Likewise, the gloves plug in the jacket sleeve and the jacket also is plugged in to the other cable on the same wireless power regulator.
If you choose to wear heated socks without heated pants or the heated gloves without the heated jacket… this can be done and is accomplished by use of an extension cable for each.

First Gear Dual Wireless Controller. Passenger position located beneath the left armrest. Notice there are no wires. The wires and controller seen is passenger helmet volume control.

First Gear Dual Wireless Controller. Driver position located on the right knee beside the key for the lockable storage. Having no wires… I only had to make the holes and I was done.

Covered power plugin for the driver. Location is the left knee suspension and headlight control panel. There was just enough room to fit.

Passenger power connector. Located in the left (passenger elbow) pocket. The capacity for these pockets are minimal… using this space took a little away but no much.
